The history of Ilha do Guajirú goes back many years in time.
For many decades, this (used to be an) island served as a very productive coconut plantation.
When you visit you will find out why, since Ilha do Guajirú:
- consists of rich, fertile lands everywhere!
- enjoys an average of approximately 3000 hours sun every year!
- has an ideal climate, being located almost at the equator!
- reaches temperatures average between 26 & 32 degrees Celcius everyday!
- has no lack of water at any time, due to the massive Lagoon in the front and a River circling at the back!
But these ideal circumstances also produced the name of the island:
The "Guajirú" is a large consumable berry, red of colour and sweet in taste: try a cold Guajirú juice whilst watching the sunset!
Walk to the end of Praia da Barra where the palms begin, and then climb the hills at the back: you will find the berries in the small bush, but look well between the many green leaves!
